The NAHS Marching Band percussion section will be holding winter/spring technique classes between January and May. The classes will prepare students for the Fall 2010 season. All potential percussionists, regardless of age or experience, will be required to audition for a spot in the Fall 2010 marching band percussion section. These classes will be specifically designed to prepare students for that audition.
We will be preparing several pieces to be performed at the NAHS 2010 Spring Concert. We will also begin learning and preparing our Fall 2010 field show.
Introduction & First Class – Tuesday, Jan. 19, 6:30pm
NAHS Band Director Aaron Goldberg and Percussion Instructor TJ Kelly will hold a brief introduction in the NAHS Band Room, before beginning our first technique class. This introduction session is for parents and students. Expect to the meeting to last about 30 minutes. All students & parents are free to leave after our introduction or stay for the full class.
Who should attend these classes?
Classes are open to any interested 8th grade or high school student. Our goal is to provide current 8th-graders with a smooth transition into next year’s high school marching band. All interested 8th grade and high school students are welcome, regardless of any musical or band experience, and regardless of which instrument they may currently play.
When and where will classes be held?
Classes will be held in the NAHS Band/Chorus rooms on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 6:30-8:30pm. Our first class will be Thursday, Jan. 14th and our last class will be in either May or June. More details on the schedule will become available soon.
Do classes cost anything?
This has not yet been determined. Last year’s class cost $5-per-week, or $75 total. We are trying to avoid any participation fee for this year. More information will be available soon.
